Finally – the OSAEMR iOS App is Approved and Available in the Apple iOS App Store!
After 5 years of work, Dan Simonson and Jack Hitchens, our OSAEMR Board of directors, and our many CRNA beta testers are proud to announce that OSAEMR has made it past Apple’s stringent security and malware protection methods and can be found on the iOS app store by simply searching on the term OSAEMR .
OSAEMR is the first complete anesthesia EMR available as an iOS App. And it is FREE!
Our OSAEMR Mission:
To create, provide, and maintain a free or low-cost open source anesthesia electronic medical record that will contribute to public health by allowing small- and solo-practice CRNAs, as well as students and those engaged in mission work to digitally document their anesthesia care.
Our purpose is to make sure that every CRNA can digitally record their care and thus participate on equal footing with the larger hospital anesthesia practices in providing quality data. We cannot let the valuable role of CRNAs working in solo- and small-practice settings go undocumented.
Students at both Texas Christian University and the University of Southern California nurse anesthesia programs have already begun using OSAEMR to learn to document their Pre-Anesthetic evaluations, electronically document Simulation Cases, and submit their care plans to their preceptors electronically for approval. In addition, we believe OSAEMR will be a great tool for them to have after they have graduated and would like to branch out into specialty practices such as plastics, oral surgery, podiatry, ophthalmology, etc.
The OSAEMR “platform” has now developed into three distinct products:
- OSAEMR for iOS the iOS app is now available for free downloading from the Apple iOS App store on your iPad
- OSAEMR for FileMaker Go is a file to be downloaded and opened using FileMaker Go on iOS and FileMaker Pro on Mac or Windows
- OSAEMR Cloud, as a FileMaker database hosted on a FileMaker Server by our development partners, AppWorks.
Each of these choices has advantages and disadvantages.
OSAEMR for iOS (the iOS App)
Advantages:
Free (currently – this may change in the future) download from the Apple iOS app store
Easiest to install and set up
Disadvantages:
Cannot be updated to newer versions without losing your user data (surgeons, facilities, new meds you added, etc.). However, if you wish you can move your datafiles to OSAEMR for FileMaker Go and preserve your user data.
OSAEMR for FileMaker Go (requires downloading the FileMaker Go App)
Advantages:
Free (currently – this may change in the future) download from our OSAEMR Dropbox folder into FileMaker Go
Updating the file to newer versions will preserve patient and user data
Disadvantages:
More technically difficult to install (you have to install FileMaker Go first, then Dropbox, etc.)
OSAEMR Cloud
Advantages:
Can be used in multi-user mode, allowing administrative and licensed staff to enter data as well, and can be shared on many iPads and desktop/laptops. This is the most effective solution for larger CRNA groups.
Disadvantages:
Not free – users must pay licensing fees to FileMaker and OSAEMR, and a hosting fee to developer AppWorks.
